Accredited Investor - The new BIG opportunity !!
SEBI’s August 2026 Consultation Paper on the Accredited Investor (AI) framework proposes an important new route for investors to qualify as Accredited Investors.
Under the proposal, an individual holding ₹5 crore or more in specified securities-market assets may qualify for accreditation as an additional route alongside the existing income and net-worth criteria.
What could count towards ₹5 crore?
The proposed framework can cover securities-market investments such as:
Listed Equity + Mutual Funds + ETFs + Bonds/Debt Securities + REITs/InvITs + AIF Units + eligible unlisted demat securities + certain other eligible securities-market assets
SEBI has also discussed the use of digitally verifiable financial information, which could significantly simplify the accreditation process.
Introducing: Accredited Investor Eligibility Calculator
At PMS Insights, we propose a simple tool that helps investors understand whether their investment holdings could meet the proposed ₹5 crore threshold.
Upload your CDSL / NSDL holding statement → We identify eligible securities → Calculate their value → Get your indicative AI eligibility
For example:
| Investment Holding | Value |
|---|---|
| Listed Equity | ₹2.20 Cr |
| Mutual Funds & ETFs | ₹1.60 Cr |
| Bonds / Debt Securities | ₹0.70 Cr |
| AIF / Other Eligible Securities | ₹0.80 Cr |
| Total Eligible Securities Assets | ₹5.30 Cr |
Indicative Result: ₹5.30 Cr ≥ ₹5 Cr → Potentially Eligible under the proposed Securities Market Assets route.
This can turn a complex regulatory eligibility test into a simple question:
“Do my existing investments make me eligible to become an Accredited Investor?”

Important: The ₹5 crore securities-market-assets criterion is currently a SEBI proposal under consultation, not yet a final eligibility rule. The calculator should therefore provide an indicative assessment and not an accreditation certificate.
